Manattukkiniyān
Yogi: The term Yogi and Yoga are wrongly associated with physical exercise these days. The term Yoga means to unify Athma(soul) to Manas(mind) and mind to the Sharira(body).
In other words, it is a process of removing Ahankara (self-conceit) and mamakara (selfishness/ego) from one's identity and associating it with Aathma. Aathma, as mentioned earlier, is pure and is made of sathva guna and, processes budhi filled with energy. By this process, you will completely activate your sathva guna (happens by meditation, and conscious practice of putting a question, " is this act going to yield any benefit to Athma than this body?" before performing anything) and suppressing rajas and thamas gunas (by practicing good food habits and physical exercises (Asanas) and keeping your body like a temple where Parmaathma can reside).
Yoga is of three types:
- Karma-yoga. (Performing Varna-ashrama dharma with 3 renunciations).
- Bhakthi-yoga. (Performing Sadhya Bhakthi).
- Gyana-yoga. (Performing realization of soul like listening to upanishadhs, vedha parayanam etc).
Though, according to shaastras Gyana-yoga is superior, according to Bhagavan Sri Krishna Karma-yoga is most important as it can be performed by everybody. While Bhakthi yoga or Gyana yoga is like a path way to Moksha, Karma yoga is like a vehicle to take towards it. Karma yoga does not mean do your duty (usual misconception). In plain terms performing the varna-ashrama (Nithya and Nimithya karmas) dharmas described in previous pasuram with 3 renunciation as described below:-
- Karma Phala Tyagam (Only fruit for this is to attain Bhagavan. It has been done because Krishna has asked us to do it).
- Kartrituva Tyagam (I am not the doer).
- Mamatha tyagam (activity is not mine).
Then whats the difference between karma and karma yoga. If you start karma yoga,with dedication, Bhagavan ensures that the goal is attained. If you perform karma as karma yoga following will not cause any abachara and in fact will help achieve moksha:-
- Having began karma yoga but not able to continue.
- Completes karma yoga.
- Abandoned karma Yoga after certain time.
- Abandoned after beginning.
- Who did not begin, but want to begin.
This just shows the compassion of bhagavan towards the bhaktha. Lakshmana went with Lord Sri Rama to Vanavasa for 14 years leaving Urmila back in Ayodhya. This means that Lakshmana missed his naimithika karma for 14 years to serve Lord Rama. All you can learn from this is if you miss your karma yoga while doing Bhagavath/Bhagavatha Kainkaryam, Bhagavan will ensure that it is not missed.

Andal in this pasuram invites the 7th girl who is a sister of a bhaagavatha who has missed his nithya karmas due to his involment in Bhagavath Kainkaryam. This indicates that the paavam is pulling his leg down and the Punyam done with bhagavath kainkaryam is protecting his head. Andal mentions that your sleep is deeper than the girl who was sleeping like Kumbakarna and, only Sri Rama's praise, will help her wake up before everyone knows about her deep sleep. The name Sri Ram has complete essence of the 1008 names of Lord Srimannarayana. So Andal requests the girl to at least sing Lord Rama's name and wake up.
