Pasuram 2: Veyyam

Baadagangal teerkum, Paraman Adi Kaatum, Vedam Anaitukum Vithaggum: Kothai Tamil Tiruppavai

Importance of Thirupaavai : Clears the clutter in thought process, lucidly shows the pathway for moksham and summarizes the essence of all vedas.

The Procedure:

This paasuram clearly explains the procedure for margazhi vritham with a deep inner meaning. She extends the invitation to everybody(veiatthu valzvergal) in this world (despite the differences) to join her in the vritham and to experience krishna anubhavam which ultimately becomes a tool to attain the para bhakthi.

According to our scriptures, bhaagavatha sambandam, that is relation with fellow devotees, is more important than Bhagavat sambandam (relation with god). One who did not do bhaagavata kainkaryam (devoted service towards devotee) does not have rights over moksham. Satsangam is one of the way to do bhaagavatha kainkaryam as you are giving an opportunity to a person to attain him.

Paraman:

Andal clearly mentions that ultimate truth is the lotus feet of Shriman-Narayana who is having a light sleep on the milky ocean, which is celestial universe ( parkadallil paiyatthu ninda paraman  adi padi). Now the word, sleeping will arise many questions. Does paramathma have a human form? Does he have humanly attire? Though it is a totally different topic of discussion, let us at least have an axiomatic explanation and assumption to help our further discussion.

The vedas describe his kalyana gunas and srimath bagavatham explains his appearance and the lifecycle of this whole universe. Similar to oscillatory theory,we can understand how he is connected to all of  us and how in pelaya kalam he pulls the whole universe inside him and recreates it. He is connected to all of us with sankalpa shakthi which does not have following dimensions:- 1) time 2) sensory organs 3) physical link 4) visual connection.  This means that he does not require any humanly attribute to associate, comprehend or communicate to us. For example, Bhagavat geeta, which takes 3 hours to recite in fast pace, do u think Lord Krisha would have held the war for 3 hours to recite it? If so, do u think Arjuna would have changed is mind in 3 hours? Bhagavat geeta  happened using god's sankalpa shakthi, which is beyond the 4 attributes mentioned above.

So next time when you have question like, "does god have time for me?", you just have to understand that he is beyond time and his appearance is beyond imagination. He has taken human form to give us a way to associate with him and resurrect dharma whenever it fails. And, we should use these avataras, in this case Krishna avatar, as a tool to attain him.

Kathyaini Vritham

This pasuram  gives a procedure to follow this vritham during the month of margazhi. the word Soucham means a quality of a person to speak truth, his manas accepts the truth and his actions support the same
( Satyam , Manam & Vaakku are bounded in the same direction, which is often not ). Soucham is very important for any vritham and hence, Andal proposes the following actions to attain it; 1) Not to concentrate on external beauty (maitittyudonm, mallar ittu nan mudioyom 2) Don't start any new habit which may hinder the vrithaam( seyyadanai seivom) 3) Not to talk any thing bad, about anyone or anything, in other words no gossiping ( theekurali sendru ohdom) 4) Take bath early in the morning ( nal kalay neraduthal) 5) Not to consume milk and ghee products( nei unnom, pall unmom)  which may make you lethargic during the cold season 6)  Make saathviga dhanam which is, giving donation in right place, in right time, to right people, in right way, for a right purpose and with total dissociation( eyyam pichhayum) 7) Being truthful. All these steps are important carry out margazhi vritham.

Ultimately it is important to decorate the soul and not the perishable i.e. the body.
we shall continue the next pasuram with incremental understanding of previous ones.

Jai Shriman Narayana!
